Living Shabbat in the PresenTense

Because you are all tech-minded people who are committed to Jewish life and culture, we thought you'd like to know about how Shabbat Across America is taking the concept of Sabbath and giving it a tech twist...

Today, the appeal of taking a break--a Sabbath of sorts-- is growing. In the NY Times, Mark Bittman decides to engage in a "secular Sabbath." In NY Magazine, we've got Rufus Wainwright encouraging people to "unplug and live in quiet darkness from noon to midnight on June 21 " for something he calls Blackout Sabbath.

This weekend (March 7) is Shabbat Across America--people can connect to a Shabbat experience locally, but even if they can't make it to a dinner or service they can create a virtual Shabbat at one of SAA's virtual or real Shabbat tables on their new social network.

Find a SAA location near you, or join the social network, to found your own.
