Which is the better Jewish holiday food: Latke or Hamantaschen?

Israel and Diaspora.
Hillel and Shammai.
Chassidim and Misnagdim.

There are debates that have raged throughout Jewish history- pitting Jew against Jew, brother against sister.

Now, we will put at least one age-old fight to rest: which is the preferred holiday food-- the Chanuka latke or the Purim hamantaschen?

why can't we all just eat together?

Purim, Hannuakah, we're all the same!

But more seriously--Yossi Klein Halevi, I believe, makes the case that there are two types of Jews: the Purim Jews, and the Passover Jews. The Purim Jews speak about the oppression as a precursor to their own action, whereas the Passover Jews speak about the precursor to God's action. One is the actor, the other the acted upon.

Purim and Hannukah are similar in that they are myths about the Jews as rising up against those who would oppress us, taking our destinies into our own hands.

And so it is interesting to me that these are the two foods pitted against one another.

latkes rule!

but only with applesauce

what???

you can only use sour cream with latkes!

Just like PresenTense!

PT is just like a hamantash -- we provide the framework for Jewish creativity, which is quite delicious and bursts inside of us kind of like a sweet filling.

Unless you would like your creativity to fry in hot oil?

financial crisis

These are tough times. I vote for Latke because it is made of potatoes, the hardy crop popular during past economic crises for its frugally filling qualities.
